Meet Autumn

Hi, I’m Dr. Autumn Schoonover, a licensed clinical social worker and founder of Selah Therapy Collective. I provide therapy to clients located in North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina.

I haven’t always welcomed the in-between seasons — the waiting, the uncertainty, the slowing down. Those spaces can feel heavy and uncomfortable. But over time, they’ve shown me something different: healing often begins when we stop pushing forward and start listening inward. That belief became the foundation for my work and for Selah Therapy Collective — a space created for reflection, growth, and meaningful change.

I didn’t build this practice because I’ve mastered stillness or have life perfectly balanced. I built it because, like many of the people I work with, I’ve had to learn — and re-learn — what it means to pause, breathe, and stop measuring my worth by productivity or perfection. Over time, I’ve come to believe that growth doesn’t always mean pushing forward. Sometimes it means giving yourself permission to rest. Sometimes it means allowing yourself to take up space — to have needs, a voice, and a life that feels aligned with who you are.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with individuals and families across many stages of life, from pediatric healthcare and college counseling to community mental health and private practice. Each setting shaped me not only as a clinician, but as a person, and deepened my belief that healing happens when we feel safe enough to slow down, tell the truth, and be fully seen.

Creating Selah Therapy Collective allowed me to return to the heart of this work and build the kind of space I believe therapy should be: calm, authentic, grounded, and deeply human. The word Selah represents a pause — a breath — a moment to reflect before moving forward. Not because you’re falling behind, but because you’re becoming. This practice exists to honor reflection, restoration, and the slow unfolding of healing, while also supporting you in stepping more fully into your life with clarity and confidence.

hold a Doctorate in Social Work from Barry University with a focus on trauma-informed care and leadership, along with Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Social Work from the University of North Carolina system. Across every role I’ve held, one belief has remained constant: healing and growth begin in safe, reflective connection.

Outside of the therapy room, I’m a wife, a mom, an avid reader, and a loyal Carolina Hurricanes fan. I’m also a devoted coffee lover with a very diverse playlist that ranges from Brandon Lake and Danny Go to Taylor Swift, depending on the day. I value meaningful conversation, honest growth, and the reminder that we don’t have to be perfectly balanced to be deeply whole. I believe the most important work we do isn’t about becoming perfect — it’s about becoming more fully ourselves.

Mission & Vision

Selah Therapy Collective exists to create a calm, reflective space where healing can unfold at a sustainable pace. Through thoughtful, evidence-based therapy, this practice supports individuals in slowing down, reconnecting with themselves, and learning to take up space in their lives with clarity, confidence, and self-compassion.

Selah Therapy Collective exists to provide a calm, thoughtful space where healing can unfold at a sustainable pace. Centered on reflection, authenticity, and meaningful connection, this practice supports individuals in slowing down, honoring their experiences, and moving forward with greater clarity and confidence. At its core, Selah is a place where you can be fully seen, supported in your growth, and encouraged to take up space in your own life.

The vision of Selah Therapy Collective is to cultivate a therapeutic space where growth is not rushed and healing is not performative. A space where individuals feel safe to be fully seen, to honor their needs, and to move forward with greater presence, resilience, and authenticity — not because they are falling behind, but because they are becoming.
